School Holiday Tour: Canning Bridge Low Sensory Art Tour for Kids!

Tuesday 14 April 1pm. A shorter tour with a small group. Plenty of stops along the way, fully accessible and all mobility and communication devices welcome.

School Holiday Tour: Subi Kids Art Hunt

Tuesday 7 April 10am. Get ready for an awesome adventure through Subi's secret laneways! We're going to hunt for super-cool, colourful murals that make the streets pop! You'll hear amazing stories about the artists who painted them, and learn how they turned boring walls into giant works of art.

Boots and Bars: City art-walk and boot scooting! 🤠

Thursday 16 April, 5.30pm. Get ready for a night of discovery and dancing brought to you two great Perth businesses - Oh Hey WA and Hoedown HQ! Explore the laneways full of art, make a stop at a city bar then get ready to boogie at a beginner-friendly line-dancing class!

Subi East Heritage & Art Walks

Sat 25 April 3.45pm, Wed 29 April & Sat 2 May 10.30am. Exclusive tours created for the Australian Heritage Festival to showcase transformation of the former Princess Margaret Hospital and Subi Oval sites into stunning public spaces. See heritage gems reimagined through thoughtful design, celebrating urban history and natural features. The tour traverses the Six Season Bidi Trail, featuring sculptures to represent each noongar season.

Victoria Park Arts Season Art Walks

Our annual art walks showcasing the hidden gems to be found just off Albany Hwy. Saturday 18 April (East Vic Park) or Sunday 19 April (Vic Park) from 10am. Don’t try to pick just one, come to both! Support from the Town of Vic Park has made these very affordable AND includes a coffee!

PERFORMANCE ARTS

Freo Street Arts Festivalis A LOT in the BEST WAY!! Held over the Easter long weekend, it brings together all sorts of entertainment and events that can be produced outside - music, dance, magic, acrobatics, puppets, theatre, lights…..Too much to list here really so check out the program and you are GUARANTEED an amazing experience. From 3 to 6 April.

The Subiaco Theatrehas a couple of school-holiday-perfect events on in April. One, the Barking Gecko school holiday workshop for 8 to 12 year olds and and Stellarphant, a play about an astronaut-elephant for up to 12 year olds. Cute!!

The Vic Park Art Seasoncontinues for the whole month of April and apart from coming on our tours (quick, scroll back up to see the deets!!) you can check out art trails, exhibitions, ghost stories and more. We recommend The Studio - Live Art Session on 4 April. Watch art come to life in real time and interact with the artists.

ART - MURALS, GALLERIES, MARKETS & more…

No More Blank Walls- South Perth - 10–18 April

Our favourite live mural painting event!! This is your chance to watch the amazing mural artists at work, see how they create GIANT art and level-up the walls of South Perth. Artists from around the world are converging on South Perth for this event and we cannot wait. To see the full (epic!) line up of artists check NMBW’s socials.

Revealed Aboriginal Art Market- Discover artworks and stories from across our sprawling state at Revealed, part of WA’s biggest celebration of Aboriginal art. Enjoy a vibrant open-air market – for one day only – on Saturday, 18 April, at WA Museum Boola Bardip. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to purchase original artworks directly from art centres and independent artists, with proceeds supporting artists and their communities. This also marks the start of the EPIC eight-week Revealed: New and Emerging WA Aboriginal Artists Exhibition at the PICA, running from Sat 18 Apr – Sun 14 Jun.

The SAVA ARTcrew have found new, temporary, gallery in Shenton Park (conveniently located next to the train station!). Their opening exhibition in March brought together delightful a curated mash-up of Fine Art, Street Art, and Graffiti Art and Tattoo Art. Check in out at the closing party on Saturday 4 April. Graf fans, you’ll want to check out 'My Empire of Dirt' - the debut solo show of TREBLE, one of Perth's most consistent graffiti artists. Opening Saturday 11 April.

Building Stories Book Launch: Friend of Oh Hey, Artist Deb Huff, has released a fabulous book about Perth buildings and stories, so naturally we're obsessed! Deb creates stunning drawings of heritage buildings and then relates the tales of their lives. The book launch will be held at one of the locations in the book! Pigface Book Shop, Barrack St Perth.

Freo Prison Cell Block Art tour

This tour is only run once a year and it is a MUST-SEE! All the art on this tour is by prison inmates, from convict era to right before the prison closed in the 1990s. A unique insight into the lives of prisoners and how the prison was run. Please note this tour may noe be suited to children due to the content of some of the art which does not hold back!

LIVE MUSIC

Boss Crew in Boorloo - Every Thursday in April, from 12pm – 2pm, Yagan Square will transform into a centre stage for creative Indigenous talent - with a fresh lineup of modern, dynamic dance and music lighting up the precinct each week. 

RTRFM’s In the Pines is back on Sunday 19 April with another 10 hours of live, music in the beautiful UWA Somerville Auditorium. Get your tix, bring your mates and chill out to 20 local acts.

Electric Island Saturday 18 April: Cottesloe Beach has moved out the sculptures and moved in the BEATS! Amazing backdrop of the ocean for this one day music festival.

EXPERIENCES

Ocean Xperience beginning from 4 April at Boola Bardip. It’s the ultimate collision of nature and science - get on board your exploration ship and learn about the technology, communications and mapping used to uncover the mysterious ocean environment.

Australian Heritage Month runs from 18 April to 18 May. This year we are joining in the fun with our East Subi Tours (quick, scroll up again to see the details!) but there are HUNDREDS of other events on across the state you may like too. Open houses, guided walks, discussions, exhibitions. See you there somewhere!

Illuminate Yagan Square

17 & 18 April from 6.30pm check out the light installations throughout Yagan Square. Immersive experience created by FORM and multiple WA artists to bring light and music to a nocturnal landscape in the heart of the city.

RTRFM DJ workshops

From April to July get your kids into a workshop to learn the basics of being a DJ. Locations across Perth, Freo, Midland and Leedy!

Good Fund Freo Launch Party!

Sat 11 April 4.30pm. If you’re a Freo-Buff and want to make sure all the arts and culture events Freo deserves are funded and implemented this is for YOU! get along to the launch party to find out more and enjoy some music, drinks and community while you’re there.
